Social Work Service for Pre-primary Institutions

Introduction

Brief Introduction

Since 2012, we have been providing Kindergarten social work services to our affiliated nursery schools and other kindergartens. These services aim to help parents connect with themselves, and their children, creating joyful moments for families and spreading seeds of happiness which is based on our Evidence-based Framework of “Three-pillar Happy Family Model”.

In 2019, we were awarded from the Social Welfare Department's Lotteries Fund to implement a three-year "Pilot Scheme on Social Work Services for Pre-primary Institutions." As part of this initiative, we established the "Hand in Hand," "Hand in Hand Together" and "Hand in Hand. Walk with Love" Kindergarten Social Work Service Teams. These teams provided comprehensive services to 25 pre-primary institutions (PPIs), supporting pre-school children and their families.

Due to the positive outcomes of the pilot scheme, the government regularized the service in August 2022 by establishing District-based Social Work Teams. Starting August 1, 2024, we serve 16 PPIs in the Tung Chung and Tai O districts. Guided by our mission to protect children, we aim to connect stakeholders within PPIs and the community, ensuring that children grow up in a safe and healthy environment while addressing the needs of children, parents, caregivers, and personnel of the PPIs.

Publications

Over the past few years, in addition to providing frontline services, we have also published various educational materials. These include two picture books with four stories and a board game as part of the "Children's Emotions" program: "I'm So Scared," "The Little Train is Lost," "Banana Poop," and "Hin Hin's Building Blocks Car." These resources help parents better understand children's emotional development and engage with their children through play, fostering emotional intelligence in pre-school children.

Additionally, we introduced the "Joyful Journey: 21-Day Joyful Family Adventure”, encouraging families to embark on a 21-day journey together. The Boxset includes the "Joyful Journey" journal and mission cards, as well as "Family Fun Destinations" magnetic stickers with a background board and base, offering families a fresh experience of enriching a happy family together.

The "Children's Emotions" program is set to release two picture books, each featuring two stories that explore four key emotions: anger, sadness, fear, and shame.

Emotional Board games with those two picture books allow children to learn about emotions in a joyful atmosphere. Winning or losing is not important; what matters most is enjoying quality playtime between parents and children.

The "Joyful Journey: 21-Day Joyful Family Adventure" is uniquely designed, using a suitcase as a metaphor for the journey to a joyful family.
